There is also a West Monroe, New York.
West Monroe is situated on the Ouachita River, just across from the
neighboring city of Monroe (pop. 53,107). The two
cities are often referred
to as the Twin Cities of northeast Louisiana. It was
originally named Trenton.

There are 5,734 households out of which 26.7% have children under the age of
18 living with them, 38.5% are married couples living together, 17.8% have a
female householder with no husband present, and 39.7% are non-families. 34.5%
of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living
alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and
the average family size is 2.90.
In the city the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who are 65
years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females
there are 83.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.6
males.
The median income for a household in the city is $27,522, and the median
income for a family is $35,348. Males have a median income of $28,231 versus
$22,533 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,803. 21.6% of
the population and 15.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the
