About Bossier City - Bossier City is a city located in Bossier Parish, Louisiana , USA. As of the 2000 Census, the city had a total population of 56,461. It is the home of the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings and arena football team. Bossier City is closley tied to its larger sister city Shreveport, Louisiana on the opposite side of the Red River. The Shreveport-Bossier metro area is the epicenter to the region known as the Ark-La-Tex.

There are 21,197 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% are married couples living together, 15.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% are non-families. 24.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $36,561, and the median income for a family is $42,642. Males have a median income of $30,632 versus $22,174 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,032. 14.8% of the population and 11.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20.9% of those under the age of 18 and 11.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
