About Cairo - Cairo is a city located in Grady County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,239. The city is the county seat of Grady County.

The city's name is pronounced differently from Cairo, Egypt: like "K-row&". Although Cairo is nicknamed the "Syrup City" it has no relationship with the popular Karo brand of corn syrup, which is pronounced the same way.

Well-known people from Cairo include Jackie Robinson, a former Major League Baseball player and National League MVP; and Bill Stanfill, a former All-Pro American football defensive end, Willie Harris, a member of Chicago White Sox 2005 World Champions.

The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.14.

In the city the population is spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 83.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.6 males.
