Gunnison is a city located in Gunnison County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,409. It is the
county seat of Gunnison County.
Gunnison is the home of Western State College. The Gunnison County Airport
serves the valley and nearby Crested Butte, Colorado
with both commercial airline and general aviation flights.
Gunnison is located at the bottom of several valleys. Due to its location in the Rocky Mountains, cold air in all the valleys settles into Gunnison at night,
making it one of the coldest places in the United States.

18 living with them, 32.3% are married couples living together, 7.6% have a
female householder with no husband present, and 56.6% are non-families. 32.8%
of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living
alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.17 and
the average family size is 2.83.
In the city the population is spread out with 15.1% under the age of 18, 39.0% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 13.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65
years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 120.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 122.4 males.
