As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 124,966; a 2002 special census put the fast-growing city's population at 138,326. The city of Norco lies to the northeast, Chino Hills to the west, and the Cleveland National Forest to the southwest; unincorporated areas of Riverside County line all of its other borders. It is served by the Corona, Chino Valley, and Riverside freeways, as well as the 91 Line of the Metrolink commuter rail system.

There are 37,839 households out of which 49.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.8% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.7% are non-families. 14.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.29 and the average family size is 3.64.

In the city the population is spread out with 33.4% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 35.1% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $59,615, and the median income for a family is $63,505. Males have a median income of $44,752 versus $31,884 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,001. 8.3% of the population and 6.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.1% of those under the age of 18 and 7.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
