About Hanford - Hanford is the county seat of Kings County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 41,686. Hanford is named for James Madison Hanford, a railroad executive, after the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks were laid through Perry Phillip's sheep camp.

The average household size is 2.93 and the average family size is 3.39.

In the city the population is spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $37,582, and the median income for a family is $41,395. Males have a median income of $37,120 versus $25,971 for females.
